More than 20 years ago, Triathlon Hall of Fame member and YouTube personality Bob Babbitt shared a simple truth: if we want more people to try triathlon, we need to help them feel comfortable in the water.
Richelle Love and the team at Wild Rose Women’s Events in Calgary have taken that message to heart. This fall, they hosted the very first women’s-only triathlon at a Vancouver YMCA—a welcoming event designed to build confidence and community. The photo above beautifully captures the spirit of the day.

Wild Rose handed off a couple of race entries to Fitspeek. Fitspeek handed off one of the entries to Michaela Khan and she is this week’s guest on Fitspeek.

Michaela is a modern-day Renaissance woman. She’s close to wrapping up her PhD on running injuries, and when she’s not deep in research at UBC, she’s leading run and cycling groups across the Lower Mainland.
In this episode, we talk about her experience at the Wild Rose Indoor Triathlon, why running after 50 won’t destroy your knees, and her days as a competitive squash player. Hit play for 30 minutes of high-energy swim/bike/run/research goodness.
